Cryopreservation and cryobiology are exciting and fast-moving fields. The study of the effects of low temperatures on organisms, and the application of cryobiological knowledge in scientific and commercial settings has given rise to many new advances, especially in human and animal reproductive biotechnology. This book seeks to inform the reader of the latest knowledge and applications. In part one, some recent advances in cryopreservation are showcased, such as the cryopreservation of adherent cells on a fixed substrate. In part two, the current frontiers of cryopreservation are examined. New studies are offered on topics including marine and freshwater fish sperm cryopreservation, methods for cryopreservation of vegetatively propagated crops, and the use of X-ray diffraction for monitoring structural quality in tissue banks. Finally, part three examines current frontiers in cryobiology. The contributors present new findings on topics including cryopreservation of embryos from model humans and animals, current issues in plant cryopreservation, and an overview of current and emerging cryopreservation technologies. This book will be an essential collection for readers in these increasingly important and innovative fields.
