This book is intended for use as a reference book by practicing engineers as well as a textbook by students of prestressed concrete. It is the fourth generation of books on this subject written by the author. It is believed to accurately present the current state of the art of prestressed concrete design and construction methods in a style that is easily understood. The first Chapter is an introduction to the fundamental principles of prestressing as applied to concrete. Chapters 2 and 3 are devoted to important consideration of the principal materials utilized in prestressed concrete. The information contained in Chapters 2 and 3 should prove to be valuable reference material for the student and the practicing engineer. The theoretical considerations both analytical and empirical currently accepted as being the correct approach to the design and analysis of prestressed concrete members are covered in detail in Chapters 4 through 9. Chapter 10 is devoted to cracking and other defects the au thor has observed in prestressed concrete members during thirty five years of practice as an engineer.
