This book examines from a range of perspectives the relationship between the methods and premises of the social sciences and knowledge management, the study of how organizations manage knowledge and information effectively. As organizations become more complex and more geographically decentred, knowledge management approaches, together with frameworks drawn from the social sciences, can help enormously in achieving coordinated working. The first section of the book considers theoretical and methodological approaches. Some of the topics considered include a study of human capital resourcing practices in Lagos State, the use of open-source data mining tools in the social sciences, and a meta-analysis of social research methods at Zimbabwe Open University. The second section presents new approaches in the social sciences from the perspective of their impacts on language, public opinion, education and welfare. Topics presented include a systematic review of stress management for medical students and the contemporary relevance of the work of Karl Popper. The book will be useful to those with an interest in the relationship between social sciences and organizational and business studies, and those with interests in applying social science approaches in specific sectors, such as health and education.
